On an earlier post I mentioned that I’m writing for a website called www.Suite101.com. In fact I just posted my 22nd article on the site and that has all been done this month. I’d like to apply for a featured writer position soon. I enjoy doing some of this freelance work and if you want to become a decent writer then you need to write. It also helps to know that people are checking out my website when they check my bio. But the one thing I like about www.suite101.com is the fact that you have to apply to be a writer. Unlike other ezine website that will let pretty much anyone put up an article. I’ve seen a lot of bad articles on those site because people only want to get a quick link to their own website.
The quality of the overall content is very good on www.suite101.com which makes me feel like I am writing with a group of my peers. People that know how to write and take pleasure from it. Now though I need a break. So until tomorrow.

One of the wonderful things about freelance work assuming you can find enough work is the chance to be your own boss. But more than that is the fact that with the web you can to some degree determine your own fate. This is because as a freelancer on the web there are multiple places you can go if you are looking to land some work. And of course you can advertise yourself through your own website. One site I found a little while back is www.Guru.com.
This is a very good site to find different kinds of freelance jobs. Everything from consulting work, graphic design, website design, accounting and much more. This site is a wonderful way to find some temporary work. The jobs are of course bid on though you can post a profile and set things up so people can contact you directly with job offers. There are of course a lot of registered freelancers on the site but it seems to me that a lot of them aren’t that serious about getting work through Guru. So even though it might take some effort and pacience to get that first job you just need to be patient. Anyway if you are a freelancer and you don’t already know about www.Guru.com you need to take the time to check it out. It might be worth the effort.

I write a number of business articles for posting on my own website as well as article directories. And so I was taking the time today to look into a few of them that my articles are on. It’s amazing how poorly they can be set up. I personally prefer ezines that offer some sort of tracking ability for my articles. Because besides getting the link you hope that somebody is actually going to click on it. The best site will have the ability to track how many times your articles is viewed as well as offering you the chance to upload a good photo and provide a nice biography section. I’ve found that on some sites your biography can get checked out as much as your articles. This of course provides you the opportunity to sell yourself to your audience.
But I’m telling you some of these sites aren’t really worth the trouble unless you are using some form of submitter service. Later on I’ll discuss some of the services I use to help me get my articles out there as well as some of the better ezines.

If you are a serious article writer like myself then you’ve probably looked all over the internet trying to find ways that you can make money from your writing. It’s not easy to find sites that pay a decent commission. Associated Content is one site I sometimes post on but it only pays $1.50 per 1,000 page views. Yes they do sometimes pay up front for an article but it’s only a couple of dollars. The one site I’ve found that seems to pay decently is http://www.Suite101.com. They also pay based on a thousand views but its not a set dollar amount. Your payments are actually a percentage of what they earned from your page views. The site claims that writers average $4.30 per 1,000 views.
One major difference between Suite101.com and other sites is that you actually have to apply to become a contributing writer. The application process isn’t to bad. They basically want a short bio of you explaining your expertise and the topics you want to write about plus they want to very short original articles. They claim though that only 1 in 5 applicants are accepted. This is good because the quality of the articles seems to be higher. Also the articles that you submit can only be posted on their site for the first year then you can do what you want with them.
Needless to say I am so far quite pleased with the response to my articles so far. An added benefit is the hits my website has gotten. Although you cannot put links in the article and there is no resource box your bio is allowed links and people seem to be checking me out which has gotten me the hits. So if you’re serious about writing articles you should check them out.
